Collaboration between iPlay SafeSlide and the Quality Mark Institute for Safe Water Slides

written by John van Gent
The iPlay & SafeSlide partnership with the Keurmerkinstituut (Dutch Certification Institute) is designed to further enhance the safety and quality of your water slides and (water) play equipment. This partnership ensures a complete safety chain: from design and installation to maintenance and independent inspection. The Keurmerkinstituut handles both the initial inspection (baseline measurement) and the triennial re-inspection.

Safety inspection according to WAS and European standards

In the Netherlands, your water slides and play equipment must comply with the Commodities Act Decree on Attractions and Playground Equipment (WAS). Before any equipment is put into use, it must therefore be certified by a designated inspection body (AKI), such as the Keurmerkinstituut.

The inspection is carried out based on the WAS and the European standards NEN EN 1069-1 and NEN EN 1069-2 for water slides. The manufacturer determines the minimum inspection frequency and submits it to the AKI, which assesses whether this frequency is sufficient to guarantee safety. According to the European standards, an inspection be carried out at least once a year by an independent expert, such as the Keurmerkinstituut, SafeSlide, or iPlay.

Complete inspection cycle thanks to collaboration

This strategic partnership creates a logical and reliable inspection and maintenance program recognized within the industry. This program follows a fixed cycle: in the first year, the initial inspection (baseline measurement) is conducted by the Quality Mark Institute. In the second and third years, maintenance inspections are performed by SafeSlide and/or iPlay. In the fourth year, the triennial re-inspection by the Quality Mark Institute follows. With this approach, you, as the operator, demonstrably meet your duty of care and the requirements of the WAS (General Inspection Act).

Clear and complete evidence of inspection

During an inspection, the Quality Mark Institute carefully examines whether the water slide or playground equipment still conforms to its original, approved condition. Changes can occur due to wear and tear, intensive use, lack of maintenance, or vandalism.

Afterward, you'll receive a clear report, an inspection sticker with the inspection date, and clear recommendations that can be implemented in conjunction with SafeSlide and iPlay. This provides you with the necessary evidence to comply with laws and regulations and guarantee safety.
