Slide maintenance

A waterslide is often the showpiece of a swimming pool or recreation park. Whether it is a spectacular speed slide or a wide family slide, the visitor's experience stands or falls with the condition of the attraction. When waterslide maintenance is neglected, this is not only reflected in the appearance, but also has direct consequences for safety and the lifespan of the structure. Regular inspections and specialist maintenance ensure that minor wear spots do not develop into costly defects.

Safety starts with proper slide maintenance

Water slides and attractions must be and remain safe. This is true for the people (often children) who use them daily, but also for businesses and municipalities themselves. Regular maintenance is essential to ensure safety and prevent legal issues.

Frequently asked questions about slide maintenance

A water slide must be thoroughly inspected and maintained by a certified specialist at least once a year. During this maintenance, the technical condition is assessed, wear and tear is detected, and safety is tested according to applicable standards (such as EN 1069). It is also recommended to perform interim inspections, especially during peak season, to identify and repair minor defects promptly. This keeps the slide safe, reliable, and in optimal condition.
Slide maintenance includes a combination of inspection, cleaning, repair, and technical control. This includes: Checking bolts, connections, and seals. Inspecting the slide structure for cracks or wear. Cleaning the slide surfaces to maintain smoothness. Checking the water flow, pumps, and filter systems. Testing safety features such as starting platforms, handrails, and catch zones. Any deficiencies are immediately repaired or recorded for follow-up, ensuring the installation continues to comply with all safety regulations.
Can maintenance also be carried out during peak season? Yes, maintenance can be carried out during peak season, provided it is carefully planned. This often involves minor or preventative maintenance, such as checking fasteners, cleaning parts, or performing short safety checks outside of opening hours. Major maintenance work or repairs are preferably scheduled in the early or late season to minimize disruption to visitors.
During maintenance work, you may experience temporary odor or noise disturbance. We strive to minimize this inconvenience as much as possible; we are working for your safety.
To ensure the safety of your guests and our employees, the water slide cannot be used during certain maintenance phases. The slide cannot be used during work requiring the use of an aerial platform. There is a risk that the aerial platform could damage the slide. We recommend closing the slide during this period and only reopening it after the work has been completed and a visual inspection has been performed.
We do everything we can to minimize any disruption during maintenance work. Certain chemicals can release vapors that are heavier than air and accumulate near the ground surface. In a swimming pool environment, this can be a nuisance, especially for children and the elderly, who are more sensitive to these vapors.
Work on the slide is weather-dependent. In the event of unfavorable weather conditions, such as rain, strong winds, or frost, work may be postponed to ensure employee safety and prevent damage to materials.
Indoor/outdoor temperatures often cause condensation on the water slide. To prevent this, the weather conditions must be favorable, which is best between May and September.

Inspection as the basis for a safety plan

Before physical work can begin, a thorough slide inspection necessary. During this inspection, we examine not only the visible parts of the slide but also the technical details that are often overlooked. A proper inspection in accordance with applicable standards such as NEN-EN 1069 forms the basis of any maintenance plan. During such a round, we check the condition of the segments, the connections, and the state of the supporting structure.

The transitions between the different track sections are critical points. If these no longer fit together seamlessly, dangerous situations can arise for users. By detecting subsidence or minor shifts early on, you can prevent greater damage. Additionally, the stairs and the starting platform are checked for stability and grip, ensuring safety begins even before the visitor has slid the first meter.

Why specialist slide maintenance pays off

Outsourcing waterslide maintenance to professionals offers certainty. Experts possess the right certifications and materials specifically developed for the recreation sector. Moreover, they can often work during closing hours, minimizing disruption for visitors. A well-maintained waterslide attracts more visitors, reduces the risk of accidents, and prevents unexpected full replacement.

Investing in maintenance is investing in the future of your park. A safe, fast, and gleaming waterslide is the best calling card you can have. Whether it involves a small waterslide in a local swimming pool or a complex network of slides in a large water park, the principles of good maintenance remain the same: inspect regularly, repair professionally, and prevent where possible.
